The 4 Training Mistakes That Keep 90% of Muay Thai Fighters Stuck
After 30+ years in Muay Thai, I’ve made every training mistake in the book. And I mean every. single. one.
But here’s what I’ve discovered: most fighters get trapped in predictable patterns without even realizing it.
In this episode, I break down the 4 training mistakes that keep 90% of fighters stuck – and the psychology behind why we keep making them.

The 4 Training Mistakes:
The Nostalgic – Convinced that 1985 Thailand had all the answers (guilty as charged on this one)
The Grinder – Believes more destruction equals faster progress (also been there)
The Collector – Chases every new gadget and “secret” method (my garage was a equipment graveyard)
The Scholar – Over-analyzes everything instead of actually training (spent more time measuring than moving)
Sound familiar? I cycled through all four before discovering what actually works.
The Real Game-Changer
It’s not about the training methods – it’s about the psychology that drives us toward these extremes.
I dive deep into the developmental psychology research that explains why smart, dedicated fighters make these predictable mistakes. Once you understand the three-layer framework I reveal, you’ll never get trapped again.
The solution? Becoming what I call a “Results Realist” – someone
who takes what works from every era and method, discards what doesn’t, and applies it to your actual reality.
This framework has completely transformed how I approach training decisions. Instead of chasing perfect authenticity, perfect destruction, perfect novelty, or perfect data, I started chasing perfect results.
And the best part? You don’t have to waste years making the same mistakes I did.
Give yourself permission to make Muay Thai work for your life, instead of making your life fit some idealized version of Muay Thai.
As I always say: “Respect the traditional. Embrace the new.”
Which archetype did you recognize in yourself?
